Combined Heat & Power Systems and Plants  Market Developments ( CHP) worldwide 2010 to 2030
Mini and Micro CHP Plants with high market increase worldwide.

I. Initial Position

Cogeneration (also combined heat and power, CHP) is the use of a heat engine or a power station to simultaneously generate both electricity and useful heat. Small and micro scale CHP technology helps to reduce transmission losses and costs for the grid, enables a quick response to clients’ demands and allows an easy use of renewable fuels, but it has not yet captured the worldwide markets with  high volumes but it is a fast growing business with high potentials and growth rates today and the next 20 years.

This study complemented the analysis of the frame conditions with descriptions of domestic best practice examples. CHP has a long tradition in some countries represented in this study, In most countries M/SCHP units are rather few, although the technology is available almost everywhere and governmental promotion policy facilitates the investment in most of these countries. In other countries, such as Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Scandinavia and others, micro and small scale CHP is far more common. In these more developed markets, innovative technologies such as micro-turbines and fuel cells are already used in some projects. Micro-CHPs installed in multi-family- houses, small enterprises, public facilities etc. - shows innovative ways of using modern M/SCHP technology.

The efficiency of electricity generation can be further improved through the application of smaller CHP plants in the built environment, for example, in the form of mini-CHPs in the utilities sector and micro-CHPs in the domestic market. The development of  micro-CHP boiler or home power plants  is now well under way. The home power plant is widely regarded as one of the most promising successors to the high efficiency boiler.

Demands for more economical and more efficient power supplies and heating elements will increase significantly in the near future. With increasing demands and population, there is a need for alternative sources of energy, which is affordable and applicable. Mini and Micro CHP (combined heat and power) is an example of such technology. This cogeneration uses the ‘waste heat’ as thermal energy, a more thermodynamic method to use fuel. These generators are designed to be used continuously so that numeorus applications are possible, such as housings, hospitals, apartment buildings. There are many fuel sources which can be used in CHP reactors, renewable and non renewable. With increasing environmental awareness, there are many potential for renewable energy, such as biogass, biofuel, solar energy and many more in this market.

Hkc22.com specialises in Environment, Energy, New Technology Markets and  CHP market development and future trends is one of them. Our CHP team provides an independent and expert view on how the evolving economic and policy environment affects CHP markets and individual plant viability around the world. We provide tailor made consulting and research to CHP developers, equipment suppliers and investors and stakeholders, provides studies  with deep ongoing analysis of 56 major global markets.
